Data Visualisations

The graphs below show a summary of results from a questionnaire that I carried out about how other people consume media.

The 5 pie charts are:

  1. TV and Internet usage
  2. Viewing Times
  3. Most Watched Genre
  4. If the TV was watched live or by Catchup.
  5. Main uses of the internet.

When looking at each all of the visualisations there is always 1 area that it is significantly greater than the others. Making it clear to the age group tested (18-21) that there are certain trends of media consumption and usage. The main surprise for me was that people spent over 3 times more time on the internet than they do watching TV. Something that I would expect to not be the case if surveying an older group. It was also interesting that more TV was watched using catchup services than it was live. Which again I would imagine would only have changed in the last year or 2. Out of the time people spent on the internet the largest proportion of the time was spent playing games closely followed by social networking. Both of which have only really been around for the last 5 years. The rest of the time was spent casually browsing websites such as youtube. Only a very small portion was spent doing conventional activities such as shopping, banking emailing etc.

This shows very clear, easy to understand results.

  1. It is a good idea that you have done an individual pie chart for every statistic. It is much easier and clear to follow.
Maybe show the raw data you found in a table alongside the pie charts to show previous research? This way it shows how you have progressed your results.
